Title: Slogans / June 21,2026

Buddhism three separate traditions (yanas/vehicles)

o   Oldest is Theravada {2500 yrs old)

o   Latest is Vajrayana (also known as Tibetan) (1700yrs)

o   Third vehicle is the Mahayana (2000yrs)

o   In Asia Buddhism is practiced within the context of the individual vehicle-- There is little crossover or intermingling

o   In the West it is much more common for the teachings and traditions of the three vehicles to be intermingled.

§  Yet in the West we can still find centers that are exclusive

  • ·  At TBC. We practice primarily Theravada Buddhism but we also borrow from Mahayana and Vajrayana egs

o   Intro to a Vajrayana practice

 o   Vajrayana--Aggressively attacks the ego

o   One example of this is using a slogans

o   A slogan is a statement in which you act as if you believe for a certain period of time-- for the purpose of training/awakening

o   A slogan is the lens through which you see yourself and the world for a period of time

o   Slogans are not affirmations /They are not intended to improve the ego

o   They are not demands that you think/ feel/ or act any particular way

o   The slogan is an attitude through which you meet each moment

1--Remember the slogan throughout the day

2- The slogan becomes a lens through which you view your life experience.

3-Observe yourself as you experience life through this lens
